Educationis the only key to economic development and personal success.However, quality education requires a lot of resources regardingfees, time, and learning materials. The perceived benefits of collegeeducation against the funds invested in it have sparked a debate asto whether students should attend college (Barnet &amp Bedau, 2014).The alleged lack of returns of a college education makes manystudents start their life without the higher education which is notgood. Attending college provides unlimited opportunities forgraduates making it a fundamental prerequisite for a happy andprosperous life. This paper discusses reasons why all students shouldgo to college by placing emphasis on the accrued benefits of having acollege education.

Goingto college is a catalyst for intellectual and personal growth (Kail &ampCavanaugh, 2016). The college provides students with the opportunityto think about their lives learn more about themselves and understandthe meaning of their lives. It shapes their view of life and theworld in general. The college allows students to discover theirtalents and abilities and put them to proper use (Kail &ampCavanaugh, 2016). Besides, the professors in college help the studentto find new passions and support them to reach their maximumpotential. The college also increases the ability of pupils tounderstand the society and develop values concurrent with the laiddown norms. College, therefore, develops students into mature,responsible and virtuous adults.

Collegebuilds on the prior knowledge gained in high school. Therefore,students get to explore subjects in greater depth than in high schoolbuilding knowledge, skills and brain power (Kail &amp Cavanaugh,2016). The learning environment in college is somehow different thanthat in high school. It is more professional and provides meaningfuland useful learning experiences to students. Students are alsoexpected to provide the highest quality in their work activities incollege. Therefore, college is similar to the professional workenvironment (Kail &amp Cavanaugh, 2016). Students gain professionalattitudes and behavior such as etiquette, professional grooming, andresume building (David, 2015). These traits increase their competenceand promote their employability and adaptation to the businessculture.

Earninga college degree is one of the keys to getting a suitable job.Parents, therefore, urge their children to work hard in high schooland join college to get good jobs (Tyckoson, &amp Dove, 2015).College graduates also have better skills, giving them betteremployment opportunities than those who have a basic high schooleducation. Individuals who go through college are employed at higherrates and with greater consistency than those who do not. Employersfirst look for the educational background of recruits beforeselecting employees (Tyckoson, &amp Dove, 2015). Those with acollege degree have a better chance of employment than the ones whodid not attend college. The mean salary for a college graduate isalso higher than that of a high school graduate.

Collegepresents a healthy social environment for students to interact.Students who attend college, acquire not only academic skills butalso make reliable friends (Rotenberg, Scott, &amp Horwitz, 2015).Friendships are important in life as they make people feel acceptedin social groupings and provide support in difficult situations(Tischler, 2011). Interactions with other persons such as fellowstudents, teachers, staff, and dorm mates also help college studentsto develop their listening skills and communication skills not taughtin the classroom environment. The interpersonal skills developed fromsuch interactions give them the confidence to share information insocial situations (Rotenberg, Scott, &amp Horwitz, 2015).

Variousgroup activities in college help students to learn the value ofteamwork. Students become members of different groups in college,including sports teams, religious groups, study groups, andextracurricular clubs. Such group activities give college studentsthe abilities the work together and become a valuable team player inlife (Tischler, 2011). Also, socialization gives students the abilityto compromise during disagreements (Rotenberg, Scott, &amp Horwitz,2015). They also learn how to empathize with others which leads tohealthy interpersonal relationships that last for long. Suchfriendships become a network in future to circulate information onopportunities and advances in the field, making it easier to land ajob.

Despitethe many advantages of going to college, it is not meant foreveryone. Some people do not rely on college education for financialsuccess and a high quality of life (White, 2015). They ratherconcentrate on what they love doing best. Their personal qualitiessuch as ambition, vision and perseverance are most important inguaranteeing their success. For example, Bill Gates preferred workingon his passion at the expense of going to college yet he became moresuccessful in his career than his friends who went to college.Therefore, emphasis should be placed on the student’s likes andpassion rather than the college education.

However,the economy has changed from a manufacturing based economy to aknowledge-based economy. College education has, therefore, become afundamental knowledge prerequisite for all people despite their areasof interest (White, 2015). Therefore, it is important for allindividuals attend college so as to gain the basic skills of life.More importantly, people should match their goals, personality, andcollege education so that they fit perfectly as this brings personalsatisfaction. For example, people interested in doing business needthe college education to familiarize themselves with businesspractices and learn how to communicate with their customers.

Thecollege promotes success beyond work leading to long-term success(Busteed, 2015). Professors in colleges help students to discovertheir long-term purpose in life. They engage and mentor students topursue their goals and dreams by creating long-term assignments tounlike in high school. They also connect them with internships to puttheir knowledge to use. These involvements have a lifelong impact ongraduates’ engagement in their career and the overall well-being intheir lives (Busteed, 2015). College and higher institutions canprepare their students to achieve great jobs and lives. According toBusteed (2015), “Instead of asking ‘is college worth it?’ weshould ask a different question altogether, whether we are all makingthe most of it.”

Theexperiences in college make students think of their future and seethings from a long-term point of view, unlike high school. Studentsare stimulated to maximize time resource to enrich their knowledgeand help the society in the future (Busteed, 2015). Extra-curricularactivities designed for the students teach them various skills suchas skiing that they apply in their future. Besides, alumni-studentmentoring programs ensure the long-term success of a college graduateby encouraging their goals and dreams. We should, therefore, go tocollege to open our eyes so that we can see things in the long-term.As Busteed concludes (2015), if we make the most out of college, itis a worthwhile long-term investment that every student should have achance to experience.

Everyperson should go to college despite the difficulties faced bystudents who enroll due to reduced state funding (Gordon &ampHolland, 2010). Some colleges offer a reduced number of coursesleaving out for some pupils. However, even such colleges cultivatetalents and skills among students who enroll. Students have the taskto decide which college they want to attend (Gordon &amp Holland,2010). They choose the best college that will help them become theperson they want to be. The reduced slots in colleges limit thischoice. However, complaining does not assist them in any way, butrather choosing the most appropriate college in the face of suchunfairness matters. Most people should, therefore, attend collegedespite the various challenges encountered because the benefitsoutweigh the disadvantages.

Despitethe numerous advantages of going to college, some people are opposedto it citing different reasons. According to Gordon (2015), the highdropout rate in college is a waste of time and resources. Contrary tosuch arguments, the college has been found to benefit even thestudents who drop out. Besides, most of the students who do notfinish college is a result of poor selection of college and coursesleading to dissatisfaction. Therefore, efforts should be focused onproviding viable college options for these students rather thankeeping them out of college altogether and denying them the benefitsaccrued from a college education.

Inconclusion, the rationale for attending college is simple and clear.Attending college provides widespread opportunities for graduatesmaking it an essential prerequisite for a happy and prosperous life.The college promotes personal growth and self-discovery. It utilizesthe talents and abilities discovered leading to personalsatisfaction. It stimulates hidden passions and helps a person topursue them. The college also increases the degree of professionalismthat provides more employment opportunities than high school. Also,the college also promotes socialization and making friends whoinfluence life positively. The long-term benefits of attendingcollege, make, therefore, make it a core necessity for all.
