Organizationbehavior refers to how people interact and work together in groupsand teams within an organization. There are many factors that affectorganizational behaviors and the ability of individuals to work in agroup. This includes team dynamics, communication, organizationalculture, emotions, attitudes and stress, individual behavior,personality and values, and perceptions about oneself and other inthe organization. There are several methods that an individual canuse to identify his strengths and weaknesses, which have an influenceon his or her role in the success of the team. In this paper, I useJohari window and value in action inventory of strengths to identifymy strengths and weakness. The paper also looks at the areas that Ineed to improve and how I can use the identified strength to enhancesuccess of others at the university and in workplaces.

JohariWindow is an essential psychological took that can be used to helpindividuals understand how they relate with each other, in learninginstitutions and in workplaces. To succeed in academic or inworkplaces, individuals need to be able to work effectively in teams.Johari window enables individuals to increase self awareness, improvecommunication skills, team development, promote interpersonal skillsand enhance team dynamics. Two important aspects of the Johari windoware what you know and what other people know about yourself. Thereare some aspects of an individual that are known to both the self andothers, only to self, only to others and not known by self andothers. A balance between the four aspects of self defined by thefour quadrants of Johari window has a direct impact on howindividuals work in a group (West &amp Turner, 2011). From theJohari window, I have learnt other people within the group know manythings about me. Thus, my most important strength according to Johariwindow is self disclosure. This makes it relatively easy to fit in ateam resulting into more feedback and shared discovery. This hassignificantly increased my open window while reducing the unknownarea.

Valuein action inventory of strengths (commonly known as VIA strengths) isalso essential in identifying the strengths of individuals. Thesestrengths define their ability to work in groups, both in thelearning environment and workplaces (Peterson &amp Seligman, 2004).My main strengths based in the VIA character strengths include loveof listening and curiosity, honesty and zest, social intelligent,teamwork, prudence and self regulation, and gratitude. From the “Areyou in touch with your emotions” test, I have realized thatalthough I believe I am able to control my emotions, sometimes I amnot. As a result, when I am happy, I get carried away easily. On theother hand, I get anxious when things go wrong. However, one of mystrengths is my ability to express my feeling.

Someof the themes and pattern from my profile that surprised me are thestrengths that enable me be a good member of a working group. Thismeans that if I improve on these skills, I will make be able to workeffectively in multidiscipline teams. For example, from the “Areyou in touch with your emotions”, I am able to express my emotions.From the Johari window, self disclosure enables me to be a bettermember of a team since other members of the group are able tounderstand me better.

Thereare several organizational behavior factors that have a direct impacton the effectiveness of working teams. One of these factors is how weperceive ourselves and others within the organization. This has adirect impact on how relationship with other people within the groupand the ability to work together. Another organizational behaviorfactor that directly impacts on the effectiveness of teams in anorganization is individual behaviors, personality and values (Rizzo,2009). To work effectively in a group and mutually contribute to thesuccess of all, understanding different personalities and values heldby individuals in the group is critical. Team dynamic can also impacton can also influence how individual strengths can contribute to thesuccess of the others. Team dynamics refers to the forces that havedirect impacts on the team behavior and performance. The organizationculture, which includes the shared values in an organization, is animportant organization behavior factor that impacts on the role ofindividuals in the success of others in a team. In both university asa student and the workplace as worker, the organization behaviorfactors directly affect teamwork. The ability of an individual to usehis strength for his success and the success of others is largelyinfluenced by these factors. However, there are more organizationbehavior factors that have an impact on team success.

Thereare some growth areas that are necessary to improve my ability towork in diverse groups. The first goal is to improve my ability tocontrol my emotions. This will reduce my anxiety whenever things gowrong, which has significant impacts on my ability to work in a team.Another goal is to improve my leadership skills by adoptingleadership role in teams. This will enable me lead and assist otherpeople in the group towards the achievement of team goals. I alsoneed to develop positive body language which is an essential nonverbal communication skill. Finally, I need to enhance mynegotiation and problem solving problems skills. Majority of problemsthat negatively affects the effectiveness of teamwork relates to theinability of team members of deal with small problems, which evolveinto conflicts (West, 2012). Enhancing my problem solving skills willenhance my positive contribution in the team.

Inconclusion, there are several organization behavior factors that havea direct impact on the contribution of individual to a team,resulting into success. An individual role in a working group isinfluenced by his strengths and weakness. I have identified severalstrengths as well as weaknesses that make me a good or bad member ofa team. Identifying ones strengths and weaknesses, using Johariwindow or VIA strengths are essential in determining an individualrole in group success. These strengths are essential helping otherpeople succeed.
